I just got the Cast Cylinder yesterday and I spent about 10 minutes spinning the dials with no luck.

I wonder if anyone else has solved a puzzle like this: I was out at brunch with my family today. I had the cast cylinder in my pocket. As we were standing outside saying our goodbyes, I was mindlessly fiddling around with the puzzle in my pocket. Sure enough, I got the first step of the solution without even being aware of what I was doing. The rest came fairly quickly and easily.

Putting it back together? No idea where to start.

No such luck here. Step one works well, step two is a little harder and then nothing. I like the fit and finish of this puzzle. It has a great "fiddle" factor.

Oooh.... Got to step three after realizing a certain something. Very interesting. It's time to slow down and study what's going on.

Can anyone recommend a really good Hanayama to try? Nothing easy please. Im also not keen on the 1 that you spin to open as I dont see this a much of a puzzle and more a hidden trick. I currently own the Rattle, Equa, Quartet and the Cylinder...
black obs v1
Blue Ob v2 = Opened
Bronze Ex = Opened
Orange Ex = Opened
Silver Ex = Opened 35-40 hours
Lime = In preparation...
Titanium = Opened 6/7 hours (Loved that final run)
Copper = On its way...

The Vortex is really hard, I have it since a long time and never managed to take it apart.
H&H is also a nice puzzle.

I really enjoyed L'Oeuf and Medallion. Similar in design, but each worth owning.

I don't like the vortex that much. I can get it apart but I'm struggling to get it back together! I like quartet out of the ones that I have.

Sorry, but the Vortex is my favorite hanayama puzzle. In fact I pulled it out this am and have been carrying it around all day. Not bad for a puzzle I've had for more than 3 years. It's not quite as difficult as the equa and the quarter, but it's by no means easy. It feels good in the hand and has a satisfying rattle sound that my wife hates. I think the thing I like about it most is that when you really, really understand how the pieces interact they go together like a hot knife through butter, no force needed at all. If you're not experienced with it you'll end up cussing up a storm.

I'm also a fan of the chain although I don't find it quite as satisfying as the vortex.
