Re: Hanayama Cast Puzzles

Post by Quaxo76 »

I just received my first Hanayama puzzles. One is the Cast Marble, the other is the Nutcase.
The cast marble feels great, heavy and shiny and smooth... and I still haven't solved it. I thought I knew how it would open, but after reading some comments, I'm not sure anymore.

The nutcase, I have to say disappointed me a little. It's rated at grade 6, but I solved it in 5 minutes. And 5 minutes later I had it assembled back in both versions (nutcase and casenut). So it seemed very easy to me. And the "feel" isn't great, it feels "cheap"... not tight enough, the movements are not smooth, and it's a bit too light! :) I'm glad I solved it but I didn't get much fun out of it.
That said, my wife still hasn't figured it out, so maybe I just lucked out in understanding how it works...

You echo my thoughts exactly Cristian. I never liked the Nutcase for the exact same reasons. Plus I think it looks pretty ugly as well. The Marble however is still my favourite of all the Cast puzzles thus far. Just the right amount of difficulty, plus it looks and feels awesome!

I think the equa is a lovely puzzle (once youve found that 1 tiny little almost imperceptible thing) because its quite a logical process in how it all comes apart I'd put it up there with my favourites along with vortex enigma and marble

I may have to bring my one for you to try at MPP. As far as I can tell it has fused itself into a completely impossible position. :?
