I didn't order a Lotus, so I was quite lucky to get the chance to solve one last night. It's a great puzzle! Good fun, clever solution and very nicely made.

Was finally able to start the Lotus tonight. After about an hour I had it solved solved. What a fantastic puzzle! AlCyl and Tritalon also had novel solutions, but no where near as fun as the Lotus. Now onto Wil's First Box!

Also, has anyone removed the black pin? Does it require pliers? Is it worth doing the full disassemble?

Yes
Yes (unless you have claws for hands!)
..and probably - it will let you see the fiendishness and simplicity of the mechanism....

Simplicity? ...... yeah right!!! :? :(

Though the First Box is a fairly simple mechanism, once you know how it works ......

Some of my most favorite puzzles are the most simple.

I had to remove the black pin because I "broke" mine by closing it when I thought I had more to do. When you see the reasoning for the Lotus, don't fiddle with it further, not meant to happen.
