Thank for the links Oli,
But I had already scoured those to death... !
The ones on art45 are shiny !
And you know how much I like shiny metal !

That particular site has the best pictures I have seen on the net ...
Goliath is shown from just about every angle.
Speck, bloody, tacular ...

I know you have had a go at Romeo and Juliet .. and I am torn between the two ...
Goliath appeals to me because it has no hinges and is an actual human torso.

Whereas .. Romeo and Juliet .. has a nice story in it ... so to speak ...and is brass.

The other thing is .... Goliath is bronze ... and I know you are suppose to let them go to get the patina on them ...

I don't know if I could resist polishing the sucker ..... even though according to James Dalgety you are just supposed to rub them with a cloth to let the patina develop.

Romeo and Juliet is brass .. so I could polish the "loving couple" till the cows come home .. but then .. would I introduce containments into the hinges ...
How stiff were the hinges ? .. were they brass too ? Could you remove the piece from the hinge to polish the pivot pin too ?

Tiz a puzzlement ...

Not stiff at all, providing they are well looked after I imagine.
ezamover wrote:were they brass too ?
Yes, the whole piece is made from brass.

Nope, the hinge is fixed and cannot be removed.

Given the choice I would go with Goliath. Since it has more pieces (many, many more pieces) it would be a more difficult sculpture to puzzle over, but it doesn't really seem that you are after either for their puzzle aspect.

Couldn't you just save youself some cash and buy a large block of brass and polish that instead? ;)

If I could make one myself without it costing me another house I would ....
Unfortunately I am not that talented.

I have polished much brass in the past .. amongst other things ;)
But common, you know as well as I do why I like this artists works so much.

The revomaze's are very very clever and superbly executed ......
But which one would look better on a shelf ? (no disrespect intended)

And blocks of shiny brass have a certain charm it's true. But Organic blocks of brass that come apart in pieces .. well that's a whole new level.

If I do get one ... I will post a youtube video for you all to look at.
THERE IS BUGGER ALL out there on the mechanics of these things.

I found this which really piqued my interest.

Post deleted as I am getting a little tired of having them moderated all the time.
I was going to disclose the dealer at a later date.

Contact James Dalgety here http://puzzlemuseum.com/gallery/berrocal/berrocal.htm
He will provide a price list for you.

He is a long standing dealer with vast experience with these sculptures/puzzles.

Y'know, I just do not get his works. They are somewhat pretty, but the puzzle solving element of them seems only moderate and quite frankly I have seen better statues worth buying. They just strike me as gaudy toys for people with more money than cents. Oh look, a pun! :p

I have to agree. While I know there's many people who love Berrocal's sculptures, I personally don't get it. More than anything I think it's the price thats the killer for me. They look okay (I'd put one on display as an interesting talking point, but not because I think they look good) but I see them more as a 3D jigsaw than a puzzle.

I think they're more art than puzzle (hence the price I guess), but as an engineer I don't get art unless its either perfectly symmetrical, based on some sort of regular geometry (like Coffin and Mike Toulouzas stuff), or a big noisy engine

Nonetheless, I hope you enjoy it when it arrives, and if not I'm sure there will be someone willing to take it off your hands... going on recent puzzle auctions maybe you'd even make a profit too!

Just had the price list emailed to me and I have to say, WTF! How can they even closely justify charging that kind of price!

Edit:
I hope I haven't offended anyone here who has purchased one of these beautiful works of art. I mean no offence by my comment I just can't personally justify spending over 8 grand on one of these no matter how pretty they are.

Happy puzzling :D
