It's a good point.

At the moment Chris isn't making stands. I believe the person who made the wooden stands doesn't make anything like that anymore. Clearly there was a stand competition which unfortunately didn't produce any designs that were really suitable (either to pricey to construct / impractical to manufacture / impractical to ship).

As this was the case the final design is still in limbo although I believe the basic design has more or less been decided on. Providing it's economically viable for Chris I don't see any reason why a set of modified stands with a space for a coin couldn't be made. I'll certainly make sure it's something that's considered!

There really was nothing wrong with the original stands. Is it really that impossible to find someone else capable of making the same ones?

...I think the issues with the stands related to quality (arms not all being perpendicular, issues with the quality of the wood not matching) and shipping them separately from the original big foam boxes (i.e. with an extreme) was a nightmare - several broke en route (hence the desire for a flat-packable stand this time around)... just saying...

Oddly enough Puzzle Master are still selling Revo stands. But they're not the ones that also hold the LE coins.

im considering getting 3 of these and seeing if i cant get someone to bore a spot fot the coins in 2 of them.

Also, i dont thing many of us would object to recieving our stands in 3 pieces, 4 screws, and a square of felt...

is this the official result of the stand competition? This is the first I've heard of it. It would have been nice to have been notified, as some people did put a bit of effort getting pricing, designs etc out. At least A POST in the stand competition thread would have been nice, instead of buried here.

That being said, is there any objection to open-sourcing the designs?

No, I guess this is't official since Chris hasn't said a word about it since MPP. The stand competition was devised by Nigel and myself as a way to sort Chris' problem of having no stands (which people were asking for) and to get users involved in designing something they wanted. The idea was that Chris would have a design handed to him on a plate that could simply be put into production and sold/shipped. The discussions at the MPP got as far as it was generally accepted that an optimal design would be something along the lines of a flat sheet of acrylic with shapes cut in it where the puzzle could rest on its side or be stood up... there were two designs that came close to this.

There was one submission that had material/pricing information, the rest were just designs... nothing wrong with that other than it involves Chris researching the rest, which he doesn't have the time and hence inclination to do at the moment.

Chris presented an idea for a stand at the MPP which was also part of his packaging (which would be great for him as he'd be killing two birds with one stone), and it was left in Chris' hands to see if he could develop that into something useful or whether he'd go back to a hybrid of a handful of user submitted designs.
