Revomaze App
Re: Revomaze App
Although this is a great idea, I've moved this thread to the OT forum as it doesn't pertain to any actual Revo mazes, activities, stories or events

Re: Revomaze App
Great thread guys, very entertaining
I have, experience, in this area too. However because I have even the vaguest idea of how much work is involved, and don't have 20+ hours a week of free time to contribute, I won't be throwing my hat in the ring to assist. In the unlikely event that this project moves past a discussion in this thread, I will highly congratulate any participants because it is going to be a whole lot of work.
Very well done to Lefty, and anyone else with any skills useful to the project who step up to contribute.

Re: Revomaze App
In my opinion this is one of those projects where someone comes up with what they think is a cool idea and goes and makes it for him/her self for fun (like Mark's revo keyring project)... or someone else with equal or greater enthusiasm for the idea goes and makes it on their own for fun because the have the skills to make it happen.
I really don't see this being anywhere near a "team" thing to begin with. You certainly don't need a software developer, graphic designer, project manager, product research, legal advisor, or project developer... because for something like this it's all the same person.
The only point that it's ever going to become a team thing is when someone who both a) cares enough for the idea, and b) has the knowledge to put together a basic implementation of the idea (in code that compiles and executes on a sensible target system that others also have and want to develop for... I mean not pseudo code written on the back of an envelope or across a forum topic), <takes a deep breath> and then posts it here going "check this out. what do you think of it? here's the link to the svn with all the source". I'd be more than happy to help do some programming whenif it gets to that stage.
That's the point that someone asks Chris what he thinks. If he likes it then great you'll probably get more developers on board, if he doesn't then you remove all public copies of the code there and then and never speak of it online again.

Re: Revomaze App
iOS all the way. Especially for fine-tuned control of the 6-axis accelerometer. Android performance will depend heavily on the hardware the user has, so the experience will not be consistent across all devices. Plus, having an in-app store and gamecenter leaderboards would be really easy. Add to that that you can make it universal for the iPad and have much larger mazes.
I wish I could help with this development! I have a lot of really great ideas!

Re: Revomaze App
Do you honestly think that you could reproduce the properties of solving a Revomaze with a touch screen and an accelerometer?
I reckon that most of the appeal of a Revo is in the way that you can physically manipulate it and feel what is happening without being able to actually see it. A phone will be able to let you see what's going on but you won't be able to feel anything.
So what are you left with?
Just stick to the real thing I reckon.

I feel the same way, feeling your way through is a large part of the experience and that would be something missing from an app.Paradox wrote:Do you honestly think that you could reproduce the properties of solving a Revomaze with a touch screen and an accelerometer?

Not to say a labyrinth type app wouldn't be cool

Re: Revomaze App
i think the most important thing is that if you make a revomaze app, you dont call it revomaze unless it for some reason proves to be ungodly amazing.

Too true.ReVoRabbit wrote:i think the most important thing is that if you make a revomaze app, you dont call it revomaze unless it for some reason proves to be ungodly amazing.
And I agree with some above. A labyrinth (or really a maze) app would be cool, but without the feel of the mazes themselves, it's just not even close to the same as a revomaze...

Re: Revomaze App
Good point, but the fact of the matter is that unless more people volunteer to help code it the app won't happen. I can't code it by myself. I don't have the time.
So really good thoughts so far, but unless there's manpower it's not happening. Well, it's not happening any time soon. I may make a small program in my spare time, but it'll take a while.
