I spent the weekend in Cleveland with some of our music classes and found Meffert's Gear Shift at a toy store. I had my eye on this puzzle for a while, but couldn't find it at my usual online stores. So I bought it, and it was a big hit on the highway coach for the rest of the trip.

It's an 8 piece gear-based puzzle that's quite different from the Rubik's Cube. On your first play session, the puzzle appears to have limited scrambled configurations... that is, until you pull the halves apart, mix the halves separately and cause real havoc. The cube shape disappears and then you have a good challenge on your hands. It moves smoothly, and the stickers are very high quality.

Nobody on the trip could solve it (myself included) but I found some very good Youtube videos explaining the solution clearly and simply.

If you like twisty puzzles, this is one you may want to add to your collection.
