Yeh, I know if you move one piece at a time then they are 7 and 10 move puzzles, but when I came to see if I could find if they were common burrs or if they had specific names I had trouble finding them... it was that point that I stumbled across the level naming...
So, I think I'm right in saying that when referring to a burr's level, if two pieces can be moved in the same direction sequentially and where if you moved the second piece it would also move the first piece (such as moves 4 and 5 in the 6.4 and moves 8 and 9 in the 9.3) then it counts as one move... I think
I also discovered that there's a whole host of different methods for identifying/numbering the various pieces!

I was talking to Rob Stegmann regarding Wil's aluminium burrs and he's given me some great information about them that I though some here may find interesting:
For your information (just in case you did not already know) the two burrs are known designs:
Philippe Dubois/Gaby Games - 6 or 7 moves depending on how you count - piece IDs are 120,160,256,512,880,960
Peter Marineau Piston Burr - 9 or 10 moves depending on how you count - pieces are 88,512,768,922,1008x2

I think the thing I find interesting is the way that a few of the pieces were created. Given that it's not a solid piece, and the insets have been added. How does the cylinder affect the way the puzzle goes together?

The cylindrical pieces actually don't change the way in which the burr itself behaves or goes together. The only reason the pieces are created like this is because it would be very difficult and costly to machine them from a single piece of metal like the others.
Although, the round pegs slide through square notches very nicely, so although they may not change the actual movement of the pieces they do make the movement feel smoother.

Even though this is an old thread, it's the right topic.
I recently received both burrs available from Will Strijbos, the 7 move burr by Philippe Dubois and the 10 move Piston burr by Peter Marineau. These are my first real burrs. Before this I had internal combustion, a keychain 3 piece burr and a truly horrible solid burr from the dollar store.
I knew disassembly would be far easier than putting them back together so I took my time learning how the pieces moved and what they looked like. Like others opinions, these are very nice aluminum versions of these burrs. The pieces slide very easily, perhaps too easily for some people. Gravity is often enough to move a piece from one position to another.
The Piston is well named and is fun to work. I don't know if the 7 move has a name also, but its motions are more like what I envisioned a burr to be like. More sequential than repetitive.
I realize there are many many 6 piece burrs out there. Apparently these are a couple of the more well known complex 6 piece burrs. I've heard there are other worthwhile 6 piece burrs such as Love's dozen. Any recommendations for other 6 piece burrs?
I've noticed something that I found rather odd. I've not seen this mentioned anywhere so I'm not sure how odd or common it is. When each of these burrs are at the point where the first piece is ready to be removed, they look like perfect mirror images of each other. OK, not absolutely identical, but extremely similar. From the outside, the only difference is that one small cube, voxel?, is in a differant position. Otherwise they are perfect mirror images of each other. Is this a common thing in 6 piece burrs or is this just a fluke? Considering how different the pieces are and the very different motions, I was quite surprised by this.
Seeing that these are only my first two 6 piece burrs I'm no expert. If I had just taken them apart without paying attention I'd be at a loss to put them back together. I haven't tried burr tools or any other software for burrs. I'd like to stay with the 6 piece size which is challenging enough for me for the time being. All in all, I'm very happy with these two worth while burr puzzles.

i own a few burr puzzles and i really enjoy the.....accept one, i call him "the b*stard" . It was a present from my stepfather and he also has got it as a present. He disambled it, (and surprise) never was able to put it back together, so he gave it to me on chrismas (this chismas it will be 5 years ago). Ok, for sure i didn't try it everyday, but i really spended a lot of time with this puzzle, now i'm able to form shapes out of this pieces, i never thought that this would be even possible.
I don't know what i can try next and other burrs i have, have much more pieces. The name of this evil is Naef Intragon.
I was looking for pics or hints in the net, but only found one blog and this blog didn't helped me at all, so maybe here in the forum is someone who knows this puzzle and can give me a hint. Please, i don't want to say again to my stepfather this chrismas, that its still unsolved.
Here is the PWBP page for that puzzle, it has some clues in that it seems to be a mirror image puzzle, so you know somewhat how the pieces will fit. It also has some pictures of the solved state.
Thank you, the first and the second are the sites that i found too. And i'm sure you found the solution, but i don't want to cheat, i would be disapointed my whole life long if i cheat after 5 years. i think many in the forum would be able to solve it in a few hours, i just can't get this aha moment. Maybe i hate this puzzle after 5 years that much, so my mind is blocked right from the start.
