Favorite Car

Post by ReVoRabbit »

Driving to visit family for easter i spotted my old favorite car catching up to me in my rear view mirror. good old lotus. then i noticed that the clearence between the front tires looked a little odd. maybe its was just me, i thought.
could it be? no way! its not a Lotus, its a Tesla! My first first hand view of the Tesla Roadster. a luxury sports coupe mad almost entirely out of carbon fiber. does 0-60 in 3.4 seconds, body designed with the help of Lotus and guess what kind of MPG it gets...oh, you mean its completely electric? Sweet car, deffenitely my all time favorite. 2011 the 4 door sedan seating up to 7 people will be available.

General rule of thumb. Never buy version 1.0

Be nice if 1.2 got those super fast charging batteries eh ? or feul cells where you could top up at a fuel/energy station.

i feel sorry for those who bought the '09 model, the '10 model is already faster.

the sedan has 3 size batteries that can be swapped out faster than the time it takes to fill a gas tank. a full charge on a 480 system takes 45 minutes. in theory you could pull up to a battery swap station and be back on the road in less than 5 minutes.

Imagine how many charged batteries you would have to have on site at a servo if the thing became mass produced.

I was wondering, arnt we replacing petrol pollution with the pollution created by coal fired power stations that would have to be built to accomodate everyone charging their cars up ?

Whats the difference between the two in regards to whats cleaner ?

Then you have what to do with all those dead batteries? how much of it can you recycle? and how much goes into land fill ?

I like the idea of a car with high performance and low emissions (although those power stations will be doing overtime to keep up with demand) but where it falls down for me is the noise.

I'm a self confessed petrolhead, and wafting along silently just doesn't do it for me when compared to the sound of a V8 or a Ferrari V12. It's half the driving experience for me - Tunnels just wouldn't be the same :(
I heard they are considering 'adding a sound track' because a lot of journalists who have tested it reckoned it was seriously lacking in the aural department.

Nuclear power stations are the future, if governments don't start building more then I think we'll be stuffed

Coal power stations run at such a high temperature that almost all pollution is burned off and the environmental effect is minimal. As an example, a cars exahust is a couple hundred degrees and pollutes, but when gas is put into a petrol truck, the vapors are collected and burned at 1400 degrees F and completely removes all pollutants.

the purchase price of the car includes the recycling fee for the batteries. the batteries are well though out and are 100% recyclable. if any of you are really interested its in all of their PR junk on their website, but the cells are just run through a shredder, materials seperated and whalah!
