Maintenance on unopened puzzle?

Hello fellow RevoNuts!

As of today, I'm the proud owner of the Blue, the Green and the Bronze RevoMaze. Started on the blue, and it's excellent! Looking forward to the journey and interacting in the community.

However, I've noticed that with prolonged use, all of the grease seems to have already worn off, making the puzzle a tiny bit more sluggish to turn. So my question is this: Is it safe to give the rod part a drop of oil? What do you recommend for keeping the puzzle running smoothly?

(I've already seen the cleaning guide, which seems useful - but I've not solved my puzzle yet, so I can't really grease it that way.)

Sincerely,
John

I have some grease that I use that has worked well. If you want to shoot me a message with your mailing address I can put some in the mail for you.

Hey Chris,

I really appreciate the offer! However, I live in Denmark, so (as well as being more costly for you to send) it would take quite a while to get here. Any tips for a quick fix? I'm inferring from your post that a drop of oil overall wouldn't hurt the mechanisms of the puzzle, right?

I can't speak to oil, but I would recommend something more viscous like automotive grease.

Thanks Chris, I'll check out my options! I also read somewhere that Chris Pitt suggests using WD40?

Some say WD40 is not good for aluminium (the sleeve), somewhere I read about INOX being better, just search for WD40 on the forum and you will find ALOT covering this.

I myself use non-acid vaseline, never had any problems with it, but dont know if it is safe to use.

The type i use is: griffon sc1420 vaseline

I'm not sure, but those lubricants are less viscous and I find that it doesn't work as well.

Hmm for me it is perfect and to be honest, the puzzles really need very little lubricant, especially the complexer ones!

To each their own, if it works for you then go with it. Glad it's working.

More complex puzzles with dynamic elements will not fair well with large amounts of standing lubricant and could cause things to behave unsatisfactory. (ie. spraying with WD, dousing with mineral oil.)

A light rub of 3-in-1 oil on the inside of the sleeve/outside of the core would be enough to propagate into the maze and not cause issues.
