New From Marbles

Hello!

I had the pleasure of picking up the last blue Revomaze from the local Marbles store here in San Francisco. I was extremely lucky, apparently, as they are also sold out on the website. Was total luck that I entered the store and found it. Happy day.

I have to say, tho, that this site and forums are daunting and stale as a new Revomaze owner. The FAQ is woefully out of date. The main website is all sold out except for the mini and blue (which anyone coming from Marbles either already has or would be unwilling to spend $220 + shipping on). It also took me a while to figure out that all blues are the same. Since the store employee told me there were something like 11 different versions!

If other Marblers (should we call ourselves that?) stumble over here, let me spread the knowledge I gained strolling over the forums, since the FAQ is no longer a valuable entry point:
  • Revomaze itself (this website/forum) is no longer creating new Revomazes for sale.
  • Marbles is the only seller gaining new stock at this point.
  • Marbles will get the green sleeve (more difficult puzzle inside) soon.
  • There are talks of having a new puzzle created for Marbles. Presumably harder than green but easier than bronze.
  • It is unclear if Bronze/Silver (or any other previous releases) will get made for Marbles.
  • Revomaze is working on an entirely new set of puzzles, "R2" that are disc-shaped and named after planets.
  • Only prototype Mercuries have been created at this point.
  • Revomaze is not taking new orders for R2.
  • We will not be able to buy R2 puzzles until the entire series (8 regular and 2 Limited Editions) have been prototyped and shipped to the original 100 "Voyagers"
  • You may be able to buy a "Voyager" spot of someone who doesn't want it.
I don't know if/how we would register as owners of the blue puzzles as we don't have unique serial numbers. Hopefully we can still register as having opened them (once you pull it off) since we do have a certificate inside the maze.

That about sums it up.

Anyone want to sell me a bronze maze? :]

-Ryan

Hi Ryan, and welcome!

I think you make some very valid points, and hopefully Revo HQ will take note, as -like you said- there will hopefully be renewed interest with the latest release of puzzle to Marbles stores.

In my opinion this would've been another good time to start properly mass producing the plastic (and far more affordable) Revomaze Obsessions. But what do I know eh? ;)

I seriously hope bronze isnt out of production. I really really want it, the only problem for me is Wil Strijbos puzzles- they are so limited that i can't resist them  and after that i need to wait till i can buy new puzzles :?

Can't expressed how pleased I am to be seeing these points brought up by new people. You guys need to be taken care of too.

I rechecked Revogirls update that mentions the marbles stores. It seems to me that there are plans to sell the Blue, Green, and Bronze RevoMazes through Marbles.

The Silver is the only other Revomaze that isn't a limited or special edition. I frankly don't think the Silver is appropriate for mass marketing due to its difficulty and, in my opinion, its unpredictability. Perhaps a new design that retains most of the Silvers features without the unpredictable element might be OK. At this point I'm just guessing, there's no indication that anything like the Silver will be available through marbles.

I doubt the Gold will be rereleased. The Gold was the only one of the original five that had a limit on how many would be made. Those limits were 250 for individual sale and 250 for the CE sets.

All the others were limited editions. There may still be some Orange and Lime puzzles available. It would be best to contact Sophie at Revomaze for availability. Both are much more difficult than the Blue and Green.

Any of your questions would be best answered by Sophie. Her email is listed elsewhere. I'll post it if needed.

Got the blue open! I'm scared to put it back together (not obvious how), but I'll figure it out. Gotta take pictures first!

I did email Sophie (shortly before posting here). The Bronze situation is still unclear, maybe she'll get back to me tomorrow.
From Sophie:
We have also just changed engineering companies and during the change we decided to discontinue some of the limited edition puzzles such as the Gold, Titanium, Lime and Orange so that the new company just focus on the Blue, Green and Bronze V1s which they are currently getting to grips with.
We do not plan to supply Marbles with the Bronze/Silver but are instead in talks with them about supplying a ‘Marbles Edition’ exclusive to Marbles.

The FAQs page is still a very good place to start, and may of the points are still valid. The forum may seem stale because much of the action is going on in the Registered and Open forums. Once you request access to these forums, you'll see that this place is much more lively.

As for the website, you may need to login to see what is for sale. I wasn't under the impression that the blue/green/bronze puzzles would be discontinued from the website; HQ may simply be out of stock at the moment.

Finally, if you request access to the Blue Open forum (see the FAQs!), you'll find a very nice document on how to reassemble the puzzle ;)

Where did you read this? Just a guess, but I'm thinking that the intention was that each "planet" would be prototyped and sent out to the voyagers, then after any bugs were worked out, the rest of the world could purchase them. not all the puzzles would need to be prototyped and sent to voyagers before others went on sale.

From Sophie, here:
RevoGirl wrote:The point we would like to make is that those 100 (or even possibly less if Voyager Status is retracted before all that are left are sold) will be offered each puzzle first and only when the entire series has been released will we contemplate selling them outside of the 100. These are highly specialized puzzles.

thanks for the link and the quote! Its rare to see such a great thread response!

I'm wondering if this isnt a verbiage issue. It reads just as you interpreted it. However, we know that the R2 series will be released over the next few years. I believe that the intention is not to make all new Revo'ers to wait years to get any R2, but to ensure all voyagers receive the current new release first and then open up sales to the rest of the world.

When she gets a moment, I'm certain Sophie will chime in.
