Hmm... A map should only help with the second guard if the first guard was awake and you figured out how to mesmerize him. Many times people were able to slip by the first guard while he was sleeping on the job. In this case a map may help but it won't show how to defeat the second guard in armed combat.

IMO, issue controlling the second guard was a design/manufacturing flaw. It should not have been that difficult to to do, especially when every* puzzle is packaged with instructions stating "No force required".
