The price (2013) was £100 ex vat (in the UK £120, elsewhere £100 and then get charged the local tax rate when it's imported) for each puzzle in the series. To be able to buy the puzzles in the R2 series you first must buy the Voyager status membership that initially cost £60. When the entire series has been released, the R2 puzzles will be available outside of the 100 voyager members.
The Mercury puzzles has been sent out in a velvet pouch in a cardboard box. The pouches are to protect the puzzles until the boxes are sent with Ceres. For the first 40-60 puzzles the voyager coins will not be included (this is because they where still in production by an outside company) however they will follow once the Voyager can prove he has opened his puzzle by submitting a photo to RevoHQ.
By purchasing Voyager Status you are not committed to buying each puzzle in the series, all those who purchase Mercury will be then offered Venus and those who obtain Venus will be offered Earth and so forth.
The Voyager Status is non-refundable, however RevoHQ has no issue with any customer wishing to sell their rights to the puzzles to another, and they only want to be informed of the change and given the new Status holders details. This new customer will take on the serial number chosen by the former.
The colours for each puzzle in the Cosmic Series:
- Mercury - Gunmetal
Venus - Lime
Earth - Blue
Mars - Red
Ceres (SE) - Pink
Jupiter - Orange
Saturn - Gold
Uranus - Green
Neptune - Purple
Pluto (SE) - Copper
There are two special edition (SE) puzzles in this set of ten. Only after has the costumer purchased the first four puzzles in the series can they then buy the Ceres puzzle. When they order the Ceres puzzle they will also be sent a wonderful box to go with these puzzles. Same thing goes with Pluto, after purchasing all 9 puzzles, you can then buy Pluto. The SE puzzles are only available to voyager customers, and will not be reproduced regardless of future demand, unlike the other 8 puzzles.
The symbols for the puzzles are:
- ☿ - Mercury
♀ - Venus
♁ - Earth
♂ - Mars
Ç - (Ceres)
♃ - Jupiter
♄ - Saturn
♅ - Uranus
♆ - Neptune
♇ - Pluto
There are going to be no easy or hard puzzles in the Cosmic Series - just challenges that will some may do quickly while others may take longer. So is Mercury easy - no, is it a challenge - yes.
The two first will be static puzzles. When Earth comes in, then the stakes raise like the Bronze as Chris will introduce more thought as well as solving. Some may prefer these as once solved as they can be repeated easier.
BB's will not be used due to the R2 design and the fact it would be difficult to stop them going to parts that can jam the puzzle.
All the puzzle backs will be Matt Black however the actually mazes will be anodized with planets colour.
Some will have moons others will not. The drawbar will be the same colour for all the puzzles.
R2 Jupiter Prototype
This prototype was used to plan the design of the puzzles and incorporates techniques used in some of the series.
This puzzle was featured in the Wired Magazine in detail so the maze design will not be used again. This has months of work and has been plotted in a lottery (49 tickets were available) to one of the Voyager Collectors. The lucky winner was ReVoRabbit.
R2 Special Edition
There are two special edition puzzles which are Ceres and Pluto and these are only available to the 100 Voyager Status holders who have purchase the previous puzzles.
R2 Limited Edition
There was a plan to producing Limited Edition Humea, Makemake and Eris, but it have been decided to only make the latter two and that they are limited to just 20 each. Both puzzles will be jet black with gold plating and each sent in their own beautiful display boxes. These two puzzles are set to be the Jewel of any Revoer’s collection and the most distinctive ever created.
Voyager challenge
The aim is to open all the R2 puzzles. Along side this is the Voyager challenge which is optional and begins with Mercury. All those who have the puzzle can now begin to solve the first clue if they wish to. Each maze in the Cosmic Series conceals a voyager coin and each coin contains a coded message. The first Revo voyager to decode that message and submit it to Revomaze HQ will win the solitary Revomaze R1 Voyager puzzle.
Design changes after Mercury batch #1 and #2
After sending out the first Mercurys, it was not as smooth as people liked and the feedback using the puzzle was not as good as R1. Also a few managed to get passed certain areas incorrectly.
Chris changed the way the maze sat on the base and made the bb's fixed. Next was a change that added a trust needle bearing under the centre which is sprung loaded to apply constant down force pressure making the maze always at the same height and run exceptionally smoother. The original had the springs in the base pushing the maze up and hence not allow a consistent puzzle.
One other change was that the centre is locked in itself and freeing the drawbar to run smoothly. These changes are being applied to all the outstanding puzzles (not just Mercury).
