Well finally made progress and got the 2nd thingy (im sure something was sticking because id tried doing what was required hundreds of times) but I dont think its that obvious why its called the lotus! Because that completely negatw the point of the black pin

When you "really" open it, it is clearly, immediately and blatantly clear why it's called a Lotus.
It's so clear that he could just have put in there a piece of paper with "LOTUS" written on it. So, if you still have doubts, I think you have other things to open.

I'm not making more progress. Now that I know that tapping/banging can open it "the wrong way", I try more "calm" approaches, but I'm going nowhere. With the aluminum cross (and with the first part of the Lotus) I could sit and think, and I had a sense of progression - I would know when I did something right, because a new piece would start moving, or something would lock up, and so on. With this Lotus nothing moves at all (on the outside; inside there's lots of rattling) and I have no feedback on what I'm doing... :(

I've recently done the lotus and it was a great journey. Took longer than I had imagined it would and my aha moments were certainly good but alas one of them was very much by accident but then very typically Wil.

I have to disagree with Quaxo here.

In my opinion, it's not very obvious why it's called the Lotus, unless you are good at looking into the details. I know me and a couple of others have been puzzling quite a while after actually "completing" the Lotus. I don't generally study the little details with puzzles, instead just toss them to one side and then think "So where's the next bit!!". (In hindsight, that might be why I didn't get on very well with the Danlock!!)

But don't get me wrong, it's still a great puzzle, I love it!! But a big piece of paper with "LOTUS" on it would have helped, for me at least ;)

OK, I see what you mean. It may be that I'm particularly curious about that kind of "objects", so it was pretty clear to me.
Still, I'd say that most people who actively look for a clue on why it's called a Lotus, should keep their eyes open for just that kind of clues! :)

Yeah, see I didn't look for clues because, for some reason, I came to the assumption that it would immediately become apparent, at the end, as to why it was named the Lotus ie. a little more obviously. But, meh, nevermind, I still enjoyed it and that's all that matters!! :D

Take a closer look at the final object you remove from the puzzle.
