Sounds like a cool puzzle! Can you bring it along to MPP? Maybe a group effort might help. :)

bluesign2k wrote: Yeh, this is my problem. I have found a number of solutions where I can get all the blocks to fit but none make a perfect square on the top layer. I found different 2 solutions which gives something that is pretty flippin' close to a square, but they're both just far enough out that I'm convinced that they're not the solution.

I got a quick look at James Dalgety's copy of Funny Cubes (not #2) and from what I remember, the solution looked pretty perfect.

I hate to admit defeat on puzzles, but I might have to ask Tom for the solution :(
I've not played with it for a while, as I got 'close enough' and other things got in the way. Given Derek's input I guess we both have some work to do on it Chris. Worst of it is, given that the cubes were all made with different woods, the only way to duplicate a solution would be to precisely measure the blocks.

It's a really fun puzzle. Hope people enjoy it if you do take it to MPP

I find this rather odd! I actually struggled to disassemble mine - I think it took 45 minutes to do it! Maybe I'm not too bright.

When it came to reassembly - I managed it in about an hour. It wasn't too bad because I clearly remembered the last 2 pieces out and the first 2 - my biggest difficulty came with placing the 2 identical pieces. I absolutely love this one - a mix of 15 puzzle with an interlocking cube!!

If anyone wants a Burrtools solution file then pm me - I just lurve making Burrtools solutions! :D

Same here! It's strangely therapeutic. :D

Unless you're dealing with funny measurements, then it can be a real pain in the behind.

Me too... its good reference for when you invite people over and they disassemble a lot of your puzzles, and you don't want to spend all day putting them back together :)

I can't believe some of Eric's puzzles are still left!

2 of Uranus (Junichi Yananose Design)
10+ of Burr Circus (Stewart Coffin Design)

If you don't own any of Eric's work yet then I seriously urge you to consider picking one of these up while you can.

Fine, you've twisted my arm!!! i got one of each coming :D been wanting to get a burr for a while but i don't know which ones are good etc., but these look good and the descriptions are informative, so i thought why not, plus the purplewood looks brilliant. gunna try and get Wil's burrs as well, at some point, and then compare them ;)

Excellent! You'll thank me later. Eric's craftsmanship really is superb, especially considering the minimal prices he charges!
