Have you got any pictures of your design, or is it on the hush hush until it's finished? :)
The puzzle is complete, and tested. I'm happy with the results. See what you think yourself...

The puzzle contains a gravity pin which locks the sides in place when completed.

That looks absolutely brilliant! I like the lego pattern finish on it as well! :D

Have you had to glue the pieces together for it to work like that or are you just really gentle with it?

The internal pieces are glued, but I've not glued them to the sides. For the most part it's fine, as I know how to solve it. Handing it to someone else is a different story through.

My 12yo on his first attempt, pulled a side off and then asked 'Is it supposed to do this'.

Now that he knows how it works, he disassembled it, but has spent a week and not re-assembled it yet.

I have created a set of Lego instructions to build one, so anyone can try it if they have the Lego pieces to spare.

Actually I have a giant box of lego kicking around somewhere, and it would be nice to build something with it. Would you mind sending me a set of instructions to give it a go myself?

Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send a couple of zip files your direction. I also have high res images of each piece that I can send as well ... like the one below.

Using Lego to build a puzzle reminds me a lot of Livecube. I have been thinking about buying a set or two and seeing what I can make with it. Has anyone tried it?

I use livecube all the time to prototype my burrs...

note, these use the "finishing plates", which really are unnecessary for prototyping... But they do look nice...

Livecube is stunning. Very easy to work with given that everything is square, where in Lego I have to make things square. But then I have no live cubs and 25+ years of a Lego collection to play with ;)

One thing to note as smiteo mentioned to me is that even Livecube will need to be glued if you plan on doing more than prototyping.

Still having prototyped, I now need to go create the same thing in wood.

yeah, like the Juggler said, there are some downsides to livecube...

1) not as easy to find as lego
2) you MUST glue the pieces together... otherwise they don't stand up to any serious handling...
3) snapping them together is a bit of a pain...
